About Me

My name is Elisa and I am a type-a, list making, in-advance planning CPA who wishes she could live a double life traveling year round while still having a successful accounting career. Unfortunately, travel and accounting careers seem mutually exclusive so working for a Big Four accounting firm, I have to use my three weeks of PTO wisely. The lethal combination of my personality and limited vacation opportunities has led me to meticulously plan my travel itineraries in an attempt to get the most out of each trip. Planning a trip can be a daunting task so if this blog can help even one person get the most bang for their buck or avoid a travel mistake, I’m happy to share my experiences. If nothing else, this will serve as a travel journal that I can share with friends and family.

Here’s a little more about me:

I was born in Riga, Latvia and moved to the northwest suburbs of Chicago when I was twelve. While I only speak Russian with my family, anyone that knows me can tell you that I love meatloaf and country music as much as a thoroughbred American. Currently, I live in Dallas, Texas with my fiancé and frequent travel companion Kevin. After graduating from The University of Iowa in 2014 with BAs in Accounting and Finance, as well as a Spanish minor, I began working for a Big Four accounting firm as an auditor and now a technical accounting specialist (nerd, I know). In addition to travel, my two big passions are SCUBA diving and competitive powerlifting.

My love for travel was ignited when I studied abroad in Seville, Spain for six months and had the opportunity to travel all over Spain and Portugal – Barcelona, Cadiz, Valencia, Matalascañas, Madrid, Segovia, Lisbon, Lagos. Since then, I’ve tried to fuel my travel addiction as often as possible, convincing my significant other, friends, and family to come along. I spend all my money (and even money I don’t have) on travel so my #1 focus is getting the most value while seeing as many sites as possible. I am often guilty of trying to pack too much into a day (cue Kevin rolling his eyes and saying I told you so) but I’m working on incorporating more “take time to enjoy the scenery or read a book at a local coffee shop” points into my itineraries.  This blog won’t have “secret routes” or “trips off the beaten path” because I fully embrace being a tourist and believe that places like Nashville’s Broadway Street, Sydney’s Bondi Beach, and Greece’s Santorini are feverishly visited for a reason. I am not willing to give up seeing these places for  fear of being called a “tourist”. What you will find, are detailed itineraries designed to provide value and personally experienced dos and don’ts that may help avoid travel blunders. Feel free to comment or contact me with any questions and remember to like blog posts if you’ve enjoyed reading them!
